Leprosy. Stigma. Discrimination. Exclusion. Archaic laws. Just some of the reasons why over 10 million people in India feel unwanted by society, friends, and sometimes, even their own families.

Mother Teresa“The greatest disease in the West today is not TB or leprosy; it is being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for. We can cure physical diseases with medicine, but the only cure for loneliness, despair, and hopelessness is love. There are many in the world who are dying for a piece of bread but there are many more dying for a little love. The poverty in the West is a different kind of poverty―it is not only a poverty of loneliness but also of spirituality. There’s a hunger for love, as there is a hunger for God.

Shubho-Sengupta“Have always felt a deep kinship with society’s rejects, especially their struggle for dignity. (I’ve been at war with normal people all my life, my mum will tell you the details.)

“Which is why I’m looking forward to watching my dear friends Nikita (Leprosy Mission) and Shruti ‘s (NDTV) film, to be released on March 1. Leprosy btw is 100% curable, more a disease of the mind than the body.”

Nikita-Sara“Seems crazy that India still has to account for 60% of the global burden in this day and age and that most of us are unaware of the realities!”

Piyush Chauhan is an apple farmer from Simla with an immense interest in films of all sorts, especially, Hindi. He has reviewed Hollywood films in the past for a semi-trade film magazine. And is a certified mountaineer. In his spare time, which isn’t much these days, he imagines climbing the impossible mountains. He dreams of, someday, touching the peak of Everest on his own as well as of introducing himself to popular Indian cinema as an actor-producer.
